This month, hundreds of people gathered nightly at the Islamic Center of Southern California at maghrib time to break fast during the month of Ramadan. Indeed, it was a spectacular sight with the community coming closer and bonding together during this blessed time. By the 15th of Ramadan, the Center had served more iftar to the community than it had served for all of last Ramadan. Alhamdulillah that our community is ever-growing with more and more people participating and joining in the Center’s various activities.

The nightly Quranic juz recitation, followed by commentary and hadith by our pool of well-known scholars, isha and taraweeh prayers, the youth group overnight program on Saturday nights, and the children receiving gifts as they recited the Quran made the Center a very special and unique place to be during this blessed month.
Eid ul-Fitr was celebrated on Tuesday, August 30, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Approximately 6,000 people attended. Dr. Maher Hathout led the community for the 1st prayer with a memorable and uplifting Khutba addressing the responsibilities of the youth and the community at large. Jihad Turk led the 2nd prayer with a heart-warming Khutba as well. Guests included representatives for the Los Angeles Police Department and various media groups.
The Islamic Center of Southern California wishes the community Allah (SWT)’s peace, mercy, and blessings on the joyous occasion of Eid.
