[In the Media] U.S. Muslims are not measured by the exemplary work of its mainstream

By: Editor

The Washington Post yesterday published an op-ed by Jihad Turk, ICSC Spiritual Advisor and Dean and President of the Bayan Claremont graduate school, and MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati. In their article, the two prominent leaders talk about the need for greater leadership by both Muslims and elected officials in dealing with international protests. The op-ed read, in part:

“Hence, the negative image of Islam in America is interdependent with the negative image of America in Muslim-majority countries. We cannot avoid anti-Muslim bigotry. Hate speech is constitutionally protected. But responsible speech by our political leadership, making it clear where America stands when any form of bigotry rears its ugly head, is imperative.”
