MYG Commemorates MLK Day with Service Project

By: Shurooq Abuhajer

Martin Luther king Jr. Is a great man and is very well known in our history. He wanted equality for all races and we should respect him for that. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the American Red Cross hosted a day where different types of organization all over America would do some sort of community service in honor of MLK. The Muslim Youth Group of the Islamic Center of Southern California took part in this amazing project on January 20, 2013. The MYG wanted to spread fire awareness to different homes in the Los Angeles community. They took flyers and went up to different houses all overLA to spread fire awareness! They knocked on doors and told many people about the fire awareness and that this is in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Our great leader once said “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” Many youth joined this project and it shows that MLK made a big impact on society today and it is amazing that many youth give up their time to help other people and show them the awareness that people should know, in which many overlook.
